Kappa Alpha Order
at FGCU was started
in the Fall of 2003
as a provsional
chapter. After a
few years of
intense struggle
and hard work, the
fruits of their
labor finally
emerged - Zeta Pi
became officially
chartered into KA.
The chapter was
initiated on April
8, 2005 and was
fully installed as
the Zeta Pi chapter
of Kappa Alpha
Order on April 10,
2005.
"Kappa Alpha
Order is a
collegiate order of
Christian knights.
The Order was
founded December
21, 1865 at
Washington College
(now Washington and
Lee University) in
Lexington,
Virginia. The four
founding fathers,
James Ward Wood,
William Nelson
Scott, Stanhope
McLelland Scott,
and William
Archibald Walsh
were influenced by
Robert E. Lee, who
was the school's
president following
the American Civil
War, and formed the
Kappa Alpha Order.
The Order was kept
alive by Samuel
Zenas Ammen in
subsequent years
and the chapter
spread throughout
the Southern United
States. Up until
recent times it
remained a
distinctly Southern
fraternity, another
factor which
separated it from
the northern-based
Kappa Alpha
Society. There are
now chapters of the
Order in the West
and North."
