Old South Ball
April 2008
This past weekend
we hosted our very
first KA Formal,
known as the Old
South Ball. The Old
South Ball is an
old KA tradition
for every chapter.
We held the event
at the Veranda
Restaurant in
Downtown Fort
Myers. We had the
event catered as
well as hired a
professional
photographer and
DJ. Two party buses
escorted the
brothers and their
fine dates to the
Ball. All that
attended had a
great time and many
said that it was
the highlight of
their year. Be sure
to check out the
pictures on
Facebook!
KA and ZTA Adopt-A-Road
April 2008
KA partnered up
with ZTA this past
weekend to help
them clean up their
portion of Three
Oaks Parkway which
is located just
south of Corkscrew
in Estero. The two
organizations
participate in the
Adopt-A-Road
program; however
the KA’s portion of
the road is under
construction, so
when we were
presented with the
opportunity to help
the ZTA’s out we
were more than
eager. Everyone had
a lot of fun mixing
with one another
while helping keep
Southwest Florida
Clean.

big thanks goes out

Haley Cecil for
planning an awesome

KA ZETA PI DONATES TO CHARITY
Nov 27, 2006
From October 23rd
through the 27th,
you might have
noticed something
was a little out of
the ordinary in the
student union on
the campus of FGCU.
People were coming
from every
direction to dump
out all their loose
change into one of
many buckets,
labeled for each
Greek organization.
This was the third
annual Greek Penny
Wars, hosted by
Kappa Alpha Order.
Knowing that their
money was going to
a good cause,
people were more
willing to shell
out more and more
change to throw in
the buckets.
How does Penny Wars
work? Every coin or
bill is worth its
face value. For
example, a nickel
is worth five
points, a quarter
worth twenty five,
and a dollar is
worth 100. So
what’s the catch?
For every penny
placed into the
bucket, their
organization loses
one point. For
example, if your
organization has
$50 in its bucket,
worth 5,000 points,
and someone throws
in an entire roll
of pennies, you
just got knocked to
4,950. By the end
of the week, the
Greeks that had the
most money in their
bucket won. The
rule is that the
fraternity or
sorority that wins
Penny Wars has half
of the money
(including the
pennies) donated to
their particular
philanthropy, and
the other half goes
toward Muscular
Dystrophy
Association, KA’s
national
philanthropy. In
the event that KA
wins, the runner up
has half of their
money donated to
their
philanthropy.
The KA boys spent
endless hours every
night counting the
funds that were
raised each day. At
the end of the
week, it was
announced that $550
was raised between
all of the Greek
organizations.
Fortunately for the
ladies of Zeta Tau
Alpha, they were
able to raise the
most money, and
they were declared
the winner. The pot
was split in half
and $280 went to
their philanthropy,
the Susan G. Koman
Breast Cancer
Foundation, and the
rest went to MDA.
Overall, this year
was a great
success.
If you are
interested the Zeta
Pi chapter of Kappa
Alpha Order, the
opportunity is
right around the
corner! At the
beginning of next
semester we will be
holding a “rush” or
recruitment week,
specifically
looking for more
men that possess
the qualities of KA
to join our
chapter. More
information can be
found by browsing
through this
website.
